Insights into Cognitive Linguistics: An Overview of Research Training Group Presentations at the 2023 International Cognitive Linguistics Conference in Düsseldorf
From August 7th to 11th, 2023, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf hosted the 16th International Cognitive Linguistics Conference. Several members of our RTG attended the event, and some presented talks related to their research as part of this group:
- Veronika Stampfer and one of her supervisors, Prof. Dr. Thomas Herbst, presented a talk on ‘Contact-Specification Constructions in English and German‘.
- Sara Fernández Santos presented a research study on ‘Evolution of Cognitive Representations: The Case of Spanish Object Relatives‘, co-authored by Miquel Llompart and Ewa Dąbrowska.
- Vania De la Garza presented her study on ‘The Relationship Between Morphosyntactic Productivity and Print Exposure in Native Spanish Speakers‘, co-authored by Miquel Llompart and Ewa Dąbrowska.
- Our RTG postdoc, Elodie Winckel, also presented her work on ‘A Study of Individual Differences in L1 Grammatical Comprehension of Complex Syntax‘, co-authored by Ewa Dąbrowska.
- Elodie Winckel presented a poster with Ruihua Mao, Harry Yu, Anne Abeillé, Barbara Hemforth and Edward Gibson about their work on ‘Examining the Role of Information Structure in In-Situ Interrogatives’.
Some of the RTG’s associated researchers, members of the Chair of Language and Cognition, also presented their work:
- Leonarda Prela presented her research on ‘The Effect of Aptitude and Input on the Grammatical Proficiency of Adult Greek-English Bilinguals‘, co-authored by Miquel Llompart and Ewa Dąbrowska.
- Richenda Wright presented her study on ‘The Role of Print Exposure and Language Aptitude in Adolescent Writing Complexity and Receptive Grammar‘, co-authored by Elodie Winckel and Ewa Dąbrowska.
- Panagiotis Kenanidis presented his psycholinguistic experiment on ‘Cognitive Abilities Underlying the Early Stages of L2 Acquisition: An Artificial Language Study‘, co-authored by Ewa Dąbrowska, Miquel Llompart, and Diana Pili-Moss.
Everyone attending the conference was highly engaged and gained valuable insights, both within and outside their research areas. Some even had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Rhine River on a sunny day after the conference. Overall, it was an enriching experience for our RTG.
